Jitterbug Swing Dancing
At the Pattie Wells' Dancetime studio, we use the word Jitterbug to refer to East Coast swing single rhythm swing. There is also a triple rhythm East Coast swing that is used for slower tempo swing music. Single rhythm refers to one weighted step for two beats of music followed by a rock step. The single step could be replaced by a triple step for slower tempo music. Jitterbug originated from Lindy Hop in the 1940's and was danced to Big Band music originally. Today it is danced to big band, rockabilly, doo wop, soul, blues, R&B and neo-swing music. We offer Jitterbug in our extensive swing program along with other forms of East Coast swing like the triple swing, Lindy Hop and Charleston. Jitterbug is hugely popular in San Diego county, thanks partly to our very popular Sunday weekly Jitterbug & Swing Club dance party that has been running non-stop for 26 years with over 100 dancers every Sunday evening.
The Dancetime studio offers several East Coast swing courses including a Jitterbug & Swing 101 that includes single and triple rhythms and a dash of Lindy Hop and Charleston. We also have continuing swing dance lessons with a Jitterbug dance class 2 and 3 plus an Intermediate Jitterbug dance class. On occasion, we offer a Lindy Hop and/or Charleston dance class as well. The Dancetime studio is the premier jitterbug & swing studio in Southern California and one of the few studios in San Diego that offer the jitter bug and swing dances.
